KIPP PARTNERS WITH MOREHOUSE AND SPELMAN TO PROMOTE COLLEGE COMPLETION IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES
ATLANTA, GA – April 26, 2012 - The KIPP Foundation announced today that it will partner with Morehouse College and Spelman College in an effort to increase college completion rates for underserved KIPP students in Atlanta and nationwide. KIPP co-founder Mike Feinberg is in Atlanta today to sign the partnership agreement on behalf of KIPP. These partnerships are the first in the nation between a charter school organization and a historically black college or university.

DIGITAL MOVING IMAGE SALON FILM SHOWCASE EXPLORES STORIES OF CHALLENGE AND TRIUMPH
ATLANTA (April 23, 2012) -- Four documentaries chronicling the experiences of women of color as war veterans, reproductive rights activists, domestic workers, and job seekers in the midst of an economic recession will be the subjects of the Eighth Annual Spelman College Digital Moving Image Salon Student Documentary Film Showcase on April 26, 2012.

GLOBAL MEDIA LEADER & PHILANTHROPIST OPRAH WINFREY TO DELIVER COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS TO THE SPELMAN COLLEGE CLASS OF 2012
ATLANTA (April 19, 2012) -- On Sunday, May 20, at 3 p.m., global media leader and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey will inspire approximately 550 graduates when she delivers the commencement address to the Class of 2012. Winfrey, who received an honorary degree from Spelman College in 1993 will also receive the institution’s National Community Service Award. Honorary degrees will also be given to Dazon Dixon Diallo, C’86, founder and president of SisterLove Inc., and actress, playwright and professor Anna Deavere Smith.

ATLANTA (March 22, 2012) - The 12th Annual Toni Cade Bambara Scholar-Activism Conference, "Warrior Women Arise!," will examine the global efforts and impact of women in social activism, with sessions delving into the Arab Spring, the Palestine Revolution and the equal rights struggles of women of the Congo. The March 23-24 conference, sponsored by the Spelman College Women's Research and Resource Center, will also explore issues related to sexuality and the Black female body and the role of women of color in contemporary political movements.
