The Spelman Messenger, the first college publication, was established in 1885 to inform college supporters and the community of the progress of Spelman. The publication was typeset and printed by students in the Printing Department until 1920. Today, the Messenger serves as the alumnae magazine of Spelman College. It is dedicated to participating in the ongoing education of its readers through thought-provoking articles designed to promote lifelong learning. The Spelman Messenger is the official magazine of Spelman College and is committed to educating, serving, and empowering African American women.
