Japan Studies Program
The Sumiko Takahara Japan Studies Program was established at Spelman College in 1991 as a result of funds contributed by a consortium of Japanese businesses. The program is an inter-disciplinary program that affords students the opportunity to gain an understanding of Japanese history and culture, and develop skills in the Japanese language.
The Minor
The program offers a Japan Studies Minor, and promotes experiential learning through an exchange program with Tsuda College, summer school at Josai International University, internship opportunities in the Japanese business community, and participation in Japanese cultural events.
