Chair, Student Affairs Committee
City of Residence: Atlanta, Georgia
Lovette Twyman Russell is a committed advocate for children's causes. After earning her bachelor's degree in psychology from Spelman College, Russell worked as a computer programmer for a small firm and then went into sales and marketing for the Xerox Corporation.
She has been actively involved in fundraising for a number of charitable organizations including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Talent Development Program and the YWCA's "Open Your Purse" fundraiser. A native of Atlanta, Russell is also involved in fundraising for Children's Health Care of Atlanta, Zoo Atlanta's annual fundraiser "The Beastly Feast," the High Museum's David Driskell Prize and currently serves as Southeast Co-chair of Spelman College's Capital Campaign. Russell has been honored for her community work as a 2009 YWCA Woman of Achievement, has been featured in Southern Seasons magazine as an accomplished philanthropist and was named in Atlanta Woman Magazine as A Woman of Impact. She serves on the Advisory Council to the National Monument Society, Advisory Council to the Anti-Prejudice Consortium and is an advisor on Children's Advocacy of Fulton County. She serves on the Board for Sheltering Arms, Zoo Atlanta and Trinity School.
Thoughts on why she chose to serve on the Spelman College Board of Trustees: Because I am a graduate of Spelman College, I am very passionate about the institution and am very committed to its success. I am excited to serve on the Board and look forward to using my experience in community involvement and fundraising to help Spelman continue to be an exceptional college.
