Important Information for Commuter Students
Dean of Students and Student Handbook Information
The College's emergency notification system allows students, faculty and staff to receive time-sensitive
emergency messages in the form of e-mail, voice and text messages. It is important that we know the best way to communicate with you.
Please sign up today.
Monthly passes are $45.50, and as of October 1, 2010, the cost will be $49.00. You may purchase your card the last week of the month for the following month in the cashier’s office located in Packard Hall.
10 meal plan: $1,080 for 2 meals a day for 5 days.
21 meal plan $2,500 for 3 meals a day for 7 days
Meal plans can be obtain in the Student Accounts Office in Packard Hall.
You may have a declining balance on your Spelman Id card. There is a $25.00 minimum. See Upshaw Dining Hall staff.
Lunch & Listen Sessions
Once a month, we will have free lunch and discussions with various departments in the Commuter Lounge. Occasionally, we may also discuss dorm or lounge themes.
$3.00 daily in the deck only
$400 per semester. This option allows you to park anywhere on campus with a parking sticker
Commuters may park for free anywhere on campus after 5:30 pm.; however you must obtain a commuter sticker for your windshield from AAA Parking office located in the Deck.
You may also purchase a declining balance card ($15.00 min.) in the AAA Parking office.
Commuter Lounge and Lockers
The Commuter Lounge and Lockers
are located in Lower Manley. You will need to obtain and sign a locker agreement form in the Commuter Student office, and provide your own lock. Beyond the locker room, there is a bathroom equipped with showers for your use.
The Commuter Lounge is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 8 .p.m., and is a great place to pause between classes, eat, meet friends or make a new friend, or just relax.
Brawley Bounce Escorts
Escorts are available from 6:00 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.
Please make your requests for an escort at the guard station at the Greensferry entrance.
The Atlanta University Shuttle is available to you as a student at the College. The shuttle transports students throughout the Atlanta University Center as well as the West End, Vine City and Ashby Street Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) stations.

Temporary Stays on Campus
Commuter students can connect to campus life by spending time in the residence halls. With appropriate authorization and the consent of all room occupants, residential students may have an occasional overnight guest.
When spending the night, the commuter student must sign in and give the name and room number of the student whom she is visiting. She should also leave contact information in case of an emergency.
Overnight visits extending longer than three nights must be approved by the Director of Residential Life, and in unusual circumstances, by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Commuter students are subject to all of the regulations of the College and the residence halls during their visit.

Off Campus Housing List
The Office of International and Commuter Student Services is committed to providing students with services that have a positive impact on their off campus living experience. Searching for a place to live can be stressful.
To assist you with your search, the Office is please to offer a database of housing in the metro Atlanta area. As a currently enrolled student, you can utilize the Off Campus Housing List by using your Spelman identification number to login.
If you have a place to rent in metro-Atlanta, you can list your property with us. Providing your information will allow Spelman students to access your property information with ease. As a courtesy to our community, please call us immediately when the listings are no longer available. This courtesy is beneficial to both you and the student.
The Office of International and Commuter Student Services maintain this list of available rental properties as a convenience to both students and the property owners. Spelman College has not checked or approved these accommodations.
