Manley Center

The upper concourse (the Sojourner Truth Concourse) of the Albert E. Manley College Center houses the Alma Upshaw Dining Hall and the Offices of Student Affairs, Student Financial Services, and International and Commuter Student Services.

The Center's lower level (the Harriet Tubman Concourse) holds the Food Court , the Office of Student Activities, the Student Government Association, the Commuter Student Lounge , and the Reflections (yearbook) and Spotlight (newspaper) offices.

The lower level of the Center is open to commuting and residential students 24 hours a day. Here you will find the Bank of America ATM, photocopier, fax machine, computer facilities, and a game room.


The Florence Matilda Read Health and Recreation Building contains the main gymnasium, aerobic fitness center, strength and conditioning center, a swimming pool, locker rooms, athlete health center, three dance/aerobic studios, billiards/bowling center, laundry, and men's and women's public toilets. Outside facilities include four tennis courts. Visit the Spelman athletics site for aerobics and swimming schedules, information on joining an athletic team, and more.

The Spelman College Bookstore

The Spelman College Bookstore, located in the Manley College Extension, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bookstore observes extended hours at the start of each semester.

All texts and manuals required or recommended for courses at the College are available in the Bookstore. The Bookstore also has a large assortment of other books and gladly accepts special orders at no additional charge. School supplies, magazines, newspapers, toiletries, sweatshirts, gift items, general greeting and contemporary cards, film, snacks, and Spelman paraphernalia are also available.

Purchases may be made with cash, credit card, personal check (with I.D.), money order, cashier check, or traveler's cheques. The Bookstore accepts MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover. Parents are invited to set up "Bookstore Cheques" at the Bookstore to provide an easy and safe way for students to make purchases without carrying cash. Call 404-523-8520 if you have any questions.

The Robert W. Woodruff Library, Atlanta University Center

Located at 111 James P. Brawley Drive SE, The Woodruff Library serves Spelman as well as the other AUC member schools: Clark University, Morehouse College and the Interdenominational Theological Center. Library hours are generally 8:30 a.m. until 12:00 a.m., Monday - Thursday with abbreviated hours on weekends. Visit the Library Web site for detailed information and directions. Shuttle service to and from the Library is also available. Schedules may be picked up from the Public Safety Office.

Mail Center

The Spelman Mail Center is located adjacent to the Spelman College Bookstore in the Manley College Center Extension. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 11:30 a.m. - 4:50 p.m. , Sat. 10:00 a.m. - 12 noon .

Copy Center

The copy center is located in Administrative Support in lower Rockefeller. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. For more information, call 404-270-5114 . A photocopier is also available in lower Manley.

Study Areas

The basement of Morehouse-James Hall and the Commuter Lounge in lower Manley provide a quiet environment in which to study and relax.

Meeting and Conference Rooms

Meetings, social events, and conferences can be held in Manley Center , Cosby Center , and Living and Learning Center I and II. A variety of services, including catering and audiovisual equipment rentals, are also available. To reserve a facility or get information about sponsoring a party or event, call the Director of Student Activities at 404-270-5142 .

Automatic Teller Machine

A Bank of America 24-hour ATM is located in the lower level of the Manley Student Center .


Key-operated lockers in the commuter room of lower Manley are convenient for storing jackets, books, and other belongings. Lockers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.


Dr. Albert E. Manley Center

Constructed in 1973, the Albert E. Manley College Center was named after Dr. Albert E. Manley, Spelman College 's first black president (1953-1976). During his 23-year tenure at Spelman, Dr. Manley was responsible for seeing the College through the turbulent Civil Rights Movement of the '60s and the Feminist Revolution of the '70s, while also contributing to the significant growth of the College and its curriculum.
